John Kennedy conducts Stravinsky and Glass

Featuring Pedja Muzijevic, piano

The city of Paris was ablaze the night Igor Stravinsky’s Le Sacre du printempspremiered in 1913: Riots that reportedly began in the theater’s aisles—visceral responses to the ballet’s unconventional rhythms and modern aesthetic—poured into the streets. Yet in its 110-year history, the work has become one of the most recognizable and beloved triumphs of the 20th century. In this program, the Festival’s Resident Conductor and Director of Orchestral Activities John Kennedy pairs this monumental work with a thrilling US premiere of Philip Glass’s Symphony No. 14.
