SUMMARY:Amsterdam\, Netherlands (Metamorphosis; Film Music)
DESCRIPTION:Buy Tickets \nPhilip Glass wordt 89 jaar. ‘Notes on a Scandal’\, ‘The Truman Show’ en ‘NeverWas’. \nDit concert is georganiseerd i.s.m. Cor Knoester van Hommage Philip Glass.

SUMMARY:Urbana\, IL (The Complete Piano Etudes)
DESCRIPTION:https://krannertcenter.com/events/complete-philip-glass-piano-etudes \nOne of the most influential composers of our time\, Philip Glass has had an extraordinary and unprecedented impact upon the musical and intellectual life of our age. He describes himself as a composer of “music with repetitive structures” and says that “If I’m to be remembered for anything\, it will probably be for the piano music\, because people can play it.” Philip Glass conceived his collection of etudes as a set of 20 works for solo piano written to improve his own performance technique. His most personal body of work\, the pieces are a self-portrait of a life’s practice\, representing some of the most intimate and inventive music of Glass’ oeuvre. This rare evening of master piano works features all 20 Glass etudes presented by 10 pianists\, including Timo Andres\, Inon Barnatan\, Janice Carissa\, Vicky Chow\, Aaron Diehl\, Lara Downes\, Lisa Kaplan\, Lisa Moore\, Christian Sands\, Joy Yang\, and more! \nProduced by Pomegranate Artists \nPlease note that Philip Glass is not appearing as part of the Etudes. \nPlease note that the following items are not allowed in the concert hall: backpacks\, large bags\, strollers\, instrument cases\, food\, beverages other than bottled water\, tripods\, signs\, balloons\, skateboards\, bicycles\, scooters\, and any other items deemed to be dangerous or to pose an obstruction. Thank you for your cooperation with these guidelines.

The program opens with Philip Glass’s mesmerizing Company for Strings\, a minimalist gem of emotional restraint and quiet intensity. George Walker’s poignant Elegy for String Orchestra follows\, a work of deep reflection and soulful beauty. \nThe centerpiece of the evening features two celebrated vocal works: Aaron Copland’s Eight Poems of Emily Dickinson\, a haunting and intimate song cycle that brings the poet’s introspective world to life\, and Samuel Barber’s beloved Knoxville: Summer of 1915\, a nostalgic\, richly orchestrated reverie on childhood\, based on a prose poem by James Agee. Richmond native Alicia Russell Tagert joins the Symphony with her “bright and effortless soprano” (Fargo Inforum). \nA journey through the soundscape of 20th-century America\, Voice of a Nation offers a rare opportunity to experience iconic works that illuminate the emotional and poetic heart of a nation.

SUMMARY:Washington\, DC (Philip Glass: A Survey of Keyboard Works Part 2)
DESCRIPTION:https://www.phillipscollection.org/event/2026-02-08-philip-glass-survey-keyboard-works-part-2  \nComplementing the exhibition peter campus: there somewhere (January 15-May 3\, 2026)\, and paying tribute to the legendary American composer Philip Glass in celebration of his enduring impact on modern music\, five pianists—Mikael Darmanie\, Maki Namekawa\, Daniel Pesca\, and Phillips Music’s very own Director of Music Jenny Lin and former Concerts Manager Thomas Hunter—perform a panoramic survey of his keyboard works. From the introspective early works such as Opening and Metamorphosis to the complete Etudes—a monumental cycle of minimalist studies—this program captures the hypnotic beauty and rhythmic drive that define Glass’s style. Through iconic compositions such as Mad Rush\, Passacaglia\, and Mishima\, listeners will encounter an evolving musical language that is at once meditative\, dramatic\, and unmistakably personal. \nSecond concert of a two-part series. \nThe Complete Etudes are presented by special arrangement with Pomegranate Arts. The world premiere of Philip Glass: The Complete Etudes took place in 2014 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in a production conceived and produced by Pomegranate Arts. \nThis performance is generously sponsored by Martha R. Johnston.

SUMMARY:Chatham\, MA (String Quartet No.3 "Mishima")
DESCRIPTION:https://www.capecodtimes.com/things-to-do/events/?_evDiscoveryPath=/event/3444620-giocosa-chamber-music-presents-silver-screen \nGiocosa Chamber Music presents Silver Screen \nHear the whole thing! Giocosa Chamber Music presents three string quartets used in movies – Mozart’s Quartet #19 (Dissonance)\, Philip Glass’ Quartet #3 (Mishima) and Ravel’s infamous String Quartet. \nContemporary movies and classical music make excellent partners. Out of necessity\, though\, music in soundtracks is cut into excerpts and presented in conjunction with other things. On March 7 and 8\, Giocosa Chamber Music presents three string quartets used in movies in their entirety and without distractions! Mozart’s anomalous String Quartet #19 (Dissonance) opens the program. This quartet is often used in films but is rarely credited in soundtracks.  The opposite is the case with Philip Glass’ String Quartet #3 (Mishima)\, which was composed specifically for Paul Schrader’s 1985 film “Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters” and appears in the film its entirety. Ravel’s String Quartet\, a pillar of the quartet repertoire\, is a four-movement work. The second movement is featured prominently in Wes Anderson’s “The Royal Tenenbaums”. Performances take place on Saturday March 7 at 3 pm at Thacher Hall in Yarmouth Port\, and on Sunday March 8 at 3 pm at the First Congregational Church of Chatham. For tickets and the season’s complete lineup\, visit giocosachambermusic.com. \nFirst Congregational Church of Chatham UCC 650 Main StreetChatham02633Feb 8 at 3:00PM – 5:00PM

A student of VSO’s fourth music director Jaime Laredo\, Koh is a hugely in-demand performer of contemporary violin repertoire with premieres of more than 100 works composed especially for her. Glass’ Violin Concerto No. 1\, one of the composer’s most often performed works\, is preceded by Frank Zappa’s fast-paced\, riveting piece from his 1993 album The Yellow Shark.
