SUMMARY:Charleston\, SC (Violin Concerto No.1)
DESCRIPTION:https://charlestonsymphony.org/event/beethoven3/2027-01-08/ \nMASTERWORKS 4: BEETHOVEN’S “EROICA” SYMPHONYFriday\, January 8 & Saturday\, January 9\, 2027 \nIn a concert program themed around commemoration\, two Emmy Award-winning and Grammy-nominated artists return to join the Charleston Symphony — Conductor Miguel Harth-Bedoya and Violinist Robert McDuffie. \nBeethoven’s Third Symphony “Eroica” (heroic in Italian) was originally written in tribute to Napoléon Bonaparte. However\, when Bonaparte took the role of conqueror\, Beethoven replaced the dedication with an ambiguous subtitle. The music is heroic in itself\, as it set forth new ideals and higher expectations for the future of symphonies\, forever changing the landscape of Western music.

SUMMARY:Berlin\, Germany (Akhnaten)
DESCRIPTION:January 9\, 2027 \nMit Echnaton setzte Minimal-Music-Pionier Philip Glass einer der rätselhaftesten Persönlichkeiten der Weltgeschichte ein Denkmal. \nhttps://www.komische-oper-berlin.de/spielplan/a-z/akhnaten-echnaton/

SUMMARY:Antwerp\, Belgium (GLA55 - 10 MOVEMENTS TO THE MUSIC OF PHILIP GLASS)
DESCRIPTION:https://www.rosas.be/nl/productions/1152-gla55—10-movements-to-the-music-of-philip-glass \nGLA55 – 10 MOVEMENTS TO THE MUSIC OF PHILIP GLASSAnne Teresa De Keersmaeker / RosasGLA55 \nBepaalde “jeugdwerken” hebben een heel eigen klankkleur. \nChoreografie

SUMMARY:Denver\, CO (Violin Concerto No.1)
DESCRIPTION:January 21\, 2027 \nRetrospective of Minimalism \nColorado Symphony \nPeter Oundjian \nRobert McDuffie\, violin Find out more: https://tickets.coloradosymphony.org/7952/7956?_gl=1*1uqqwqm*_gcl_au*MTg1NzY3Mzk4MS4xNzc2NDQ4NzIx*_ga*MTQyODcxNDc0My4xNzc2NDQ4NzIw*_ga_V099ZPM1LL*czE3NzY0NDg3MjAkbzEkZzEkdDE3NzY0NDg3NzQkajYkbDAkaDE0NTU5MDE2NzQ.&queueittoken=e_marsalispubliconsale~ts_1776694668~ce_true~rt_afterevent~h_39135822ad656a1784362349b651f6f9955b0b3b4f670b9b208f54f2d3c72bd3 \nDesigned as a special Thursday night event at Boettcher Concert Hall\, the Outside the Box Series pushes beyond the traditional repertoire to spotlight music that is daring\, immersive\, and deeply connected to pivotal moments in art history. Featuring Colorado Symphony musicians as soloists and embracing programs that reward curiosity\, this experience offers a deeper\, more electrifying way to hear the orchestra. \nOur second program in the Outside the Box Series explores the hypnotic power and electric energy within the music of Philip Glass — one of the most influential composers of our time. Led by Music Director Peter Oundjian and featuring violinist Robert McDuffie\, we’ll trace Glass’ evolving sound world — from the propulsive drive of Glass’ Symphony No. 1 to the intensity of Symphony for Eight and the reflective beauty of The Hours. Framed by works from Caroline Shaw\, John Adams’s Tromba Lontana\, and evocative excerpts from Beethoven and Bruckner\, this immersive evening reveals minimalism as bold\, urgent\, and endlessly compelling.

\nChoreografie

SUMMARY:Berlin\, Germany (Akhnaten)
DESCRIPTION:January 24\, 2027 Mit Echnaton setzte Minimal-Music-Pionier Philip Glass einer der rätselhaftesten Persönlichkeiten der Weltgeschichte ein Denkmal. DESCRIPTION:https://www.rosas.be/nl/productions/1152-gla55—10-movements-to-the-music-of-philip-glass \nGLA55 – 10 MOVEMENTS TO THE MUSIC OF PHILIP GLASSAnne Teresa De Keersmaeker / RosasGLA55 \nBepaalde “jeugdwerken” hebben een heel eigen klankkleur. SUMMARY:Malmö\, Sweden (Low Symphony)
DESCRIPTION:https://malmolive.se/program/philip-glass-bowie \nPhilip Glass & Bowie \nSuggestiv minimalism möter filmiskt storslaget under en kväll som dansar över känslospektrat.

SUMMARY:London\, UK (Music in 12 Parts)
DESCRIPTION:January 30\,2027 \nRiot Ensemble becomes only the third ensemble in history to perform Philip Glass’ wild four-hour work\, an epic recap of minimalist style. Part of Classical Season – Autumn/Winter 2026/27 Alternative Experiences Contemporary Edit \nOn the eve of Glass’ 90th birthday\, Riot Ensemble becomes only the third ensemble in history to perform Music in 12 Parts\, which Glass himself called ‘the end of minimalism’. \nThe four-hour precursor to Music for 18 Musicians\, it has been performed outside the Philip Glass Ensemble exactly once. \nTrue to their commitment to finding the cutting edge of music from every decade\, Riot Ensemble is proud to revive the work in Glass’ 90th year. \nWritten between 1971 and 1974\, Music in 12 Parts is Glass’ encyclopedic summation of everything minimalism could do followed by its deliberate demolition. \nIt began as a single piece; a friend’s misunderstanding of the title convinced Glass to write 11 more parts over three years. \nThe result is a four-to-five-hour evening-length event for nine players: keyboards\, winds\, saxophone and voice. Simultaneously gentle and ferocious\, methodical and playful\, the work is already a complete table of contents of Glass’ signature style. \nThe work marked Glass’ transition from austere early minimalism into a far wider range of expression\, ending audaciously with a 12-tone row\, as though Glass had invented a system\, written through it\, and come out the other end. \nFind out more: https://www.southbankcentre.co.uk/whats-on/philip-glass-at-90-music-in-12-parts/More details for The Clore Ballroom\, Level 2\, Royal Festival HallTickets from £35 + £4 booking fee View more time and price informationRun time 5 hours (approx)

SUMMARY:London\, UK (String Quartets Nos.2\,3\,4\, and 7)
DESCRIPTION:January 31\, 2027 \nBrooklyn Rider performs three of Philip Glass’ string quartets\, tracing his musical voice from early minimalism to later richness. \nPioneering New York-based quartet Brooklyn Rider have worked closely with Glass for two decades\, performing his music from their earliest concerts and later recording the complete cycle of his string quartets. \nTheir concert brings together three quartets written across more than 30 years. The Second Quartet\, drawn from music for Samuel Beckett’s Company\, distills Glass’ early style into a sequence of spare\, lyrical ideas. \nThe Fourth Quartet (Buczak) is more expansive and personal. Written in memory of artist Brian Buczak\, it unfolds with a sense of quiet intensity\, balancing flowing lines with moments of stillness. \nThe Seventh Quartet\, from 2014\, takes a different approach again. Cast in a single movement\, it pares music back to its essentials\, creating a direct and reflective sound world. \nTogether\, these works offer a rounded portrait of Glass’ perceptive writing for string quartet\, performed by four of his closest collaborators. \nFind out more: https://www.southbankcentre.co.uk/whats-on/philip-glass-at-90-brooklyn-rider-quartets/   \nRepertoire \n Philip Glass: \nString Quartet No.7; \nString Quartet No.2 (Company); \nString Quartet No.4 (Buczak); \nString Quartet No.3 (Mishima)
