Joe Hisaishi will conduct music by Philip Glass (1937-) and John Adams (1947-), two composers who are representative of “minimal music” (music that repeats short phrases over and over, with slight deviations, creating subtle changes) and who he describes as his roots. This will be a long-awaited collaboration between Hisaishi and violinist Robert McDuffie, to whom Glass’s Violin Concerto “American Four Seasons” was dedicated and who performed as the soloist at its world premiere.
