The Knights mit Martynas Levickis

The Knights Eric Jacobsen Conductor Martynas Levickis Accordion
Philip Glass Dritter Satz aus dem „Tirol Concerto“ für Klavier und Orchester, bearbeitet von Martynas Levickis George Gershwin „Rhapsody in Blue“, für Akkordeon und Orchester bearbeitet von Martynas Levickis Pause Aaron Copland „Appalachian Spring“ – Orchestersuite Martynas Levickis Litauische Volkslieder

One is a violinist, the other a cellist and conductor: New York brothers Colin and Eric Jacobsen play Early Music with their chamber orchestra collective “The Knights,” which emerged from their circle of friends, as if it had just been written, and New Music with great naturalness and familiarity. They are “constantly on the lookout for new approaches and interpreters” – and “serious about having fun.”

This programme reflects their artistic openness to different styles: “Rhapsody in Blue,” that jazz-infused masterpiece for piano, has been arranged for accordion by soloist Martynas Levickis. Anyone who is familiar with his mastery knows that such a virtuoso piece is just right for him. American folk elements in Copland’s chamber orchestra work “Appalachian Spring” join Gershwin‘s jazz as well as a piano concerto movement by Philip Glass inspired by traditional Tyrolean folk music, also arranged by Levickis. And, of course, songs from his Lithuanian homeland are also included.
