Giocosa Chamber Music presents Silver Screen

Hear the whole thing! Giocosa Chamber Music presents three string quartets used in movies – Mozart’s Quartet #19 (Dissonance), Philip Glass’ Quartet #3 (Mishima) and Ravel’s infamous String Quartet.

Contemporary movies and classical music make excellent partners. Out of necessity, though, music in soundtracks is cut into excerpts and presented in conjunction with other things. On March 7 and 8, Giocosa Chamber Music presents three string quartets used in movies in their entirety and without distractions! Mozart’s anomalous String Quartet #19 (Dissonance) opens the program. This quartet is often used in films but is rarely credited in soundtracks.

The opposite is the case with Philip Glass’ String Quartet #3 (Mishima), which was composed specifically for Paul Schrader’s 1985 film “Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters” and appears in the film its entirety. Ravel’s String Quartet, a pillar of the quartet repertoire, is a four-movement work. The second movement is featured prominently in Wes Anderson’s “The Royal Tenenbaums”. Performances take place on Saturday March 7 at 3 pm at Thacher Hall in Yarmouth Port, and on Sunday March 8 at 3 pm at the First Congregational Church of Chatham.
