Philip Glass: The 90th Birthday Concert
Sunday, January 31, 2027 2 PM Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage

Carnegie Hall honors American music giant Philip Glass on his 90th birthday with a landmark symphonic program that features some of his closest collaborators, including New York’s own Orchestra of St. Luke’s. Experience the New York premiere of Glass’s Symphony No. 15, “Lincoln,” featuring baritone Zachary James, who performed the role of Abraham Lincoln in Glass’s The Perfect American. It’s conducted by Dennis Russell Davies, who has premiered almost every one of Glass’s symphonies. Plus, hear Glass’s first concert piece for orchestra: Violin Concerto No. 1 performed by soloist Robert McDuffie, whose “dazzling” performance of the piece showcases “just how mind-blowing Glass’s music can be” (Aspen Times). The program also features an exciting selection from Glass’s The Voyage, originally commissioned and premiered by the Met Opera.
