Altviolist Esther Apituley speelt samen met pianist Jeroen van Veen en percussionist Tatiana Koleva ‘Philip Glass; Songs & Poems, Tissues & Issues’. Een concert dat verder gaat dan muziek alleen. Gedichten van onder anderen Lieke Marsman en Ellen Deckwitz (lees: Issues in de titel) worden met de composities van Philip Glass, een ingenieus lichtplan en de bewegingen van de muzikanten vervlochten. Ofwel deinen de teksten, het licht en de choreografie op de muziek, ofwel contrasteren zij ermee. Zo boren de muzikanten een diepere laag aan. Op toegankelijke wijze laten ze het publiek de muziek van Glass in steeds veranderende sferen beleven.

Het concert bevat ook een wereldpremière: voor het eerst is Glass te horen op altviool! De componist gaf Apituley persoonlijk toestemming om ‘Songs & Poems’ (oorspronkelijk geschreven voor cello) te arrangeren voor dit instrument.

Jointly with pianist Jeroen van Veen and percussionist Tatiana Koleva, viola player Esther Apituley is playing ‘Philip Glass; Songs & Poems, Tissues & Issues’. A concert that is about more than music. Poems by the likes of Lieke Marsman and Ellen Deckwitz (read: Issues in the title) are brought to life with Philips Glass’ compositions, an ingenious lighting plan and the movements of the musicians. Either the lyrics, lighting and choreography are in sync with the music, or they contrast with one another. This allows the musicians to reach a deeper layer. They have an accessible way of letting the audience experience Glass’s music in an ever-changing ambiance.

The concert also includes a world premiere: for the first time, Glass is played on viola! The composer personally gave Apituley permission to arrange ‘Songs & Poems’ (originally written for cello) for this instrument.
