Palaver Strings’ Beehive Chamber Series Presents “Nightingale in a Tree” February 2
Palaver Strings’ Beehive Chamber Series presents “Nightingale in a Tree” Friday, February 2, at 7 p.m.

Palaver Strings welcomes Fredy Clue, a Nyckelharpa virtuoso, composer, and multi-instrumentalist from Sweden. Hailed as “a creator of remarkable experiences and a true innovator in the folk art space,” Clue has taken the traditional music scene by storm. Their music takes inspiration from the forests, oceans, birds, and animals alike.
Joined by Maine’s own Jamie Oshima, a talented guitarist, Palaver Strings will premiere Clue’s new arrangements for Nyckelharpa and strings. It will pair Clue’s music with Philip Glass’s Fourth String Quartet. Written in memory of avant-garde artist Brian Buczak, this three-movement work combines undulating arpeggios, soaring melodies, and rich harmonies to create a deep-rooted, whole-body experience.

Juno Orchestra Presents “Challenge” February 11
The Juno Orchestra, the region’s ‘home team’ chamber orchestra, presents “Challenge” Sunday, February 11, at 2:30 p.m. at the BMC. Under the direction of Zon Eastes, the Juno Orchestra will perform George Frideric Handel’s Concerto Gross in B flat Major, Op. 6, No. 7; Paul Hindemith’s Five Pieces, Op 44, No. 4; Erik Nielsen’s Movement III from Glimpses of Azure; Jean Perrault’s Exodus; and George Templeton Strong’s Choral on a Theme by Leo Hassler (1601).

Also featured will be the premiere of Robert Merfeld’s Bridget Anne Hart: An Irish Legacy. The piece was inspired by memories of departing the Irish homeland and settling in a new land, namely Vermont. The piece is set for narrator, winds, and strings, and presents several tunes any audience member will recognize.
