Southbank Centre Resident Artists Manchester Collective bring together performers, composers and collaborators in events that shift freely between classical music, new sounds and more.

Here, major works from Philip Glass’ career sit alongside music by composers of today. An early movement from his First String Quartet reveals a composer testing ideas that would later define minimalism, while the Fifth Quartet shows that language fully realised, with driving rhythms and immense emotional power.

Edmund Finnis’ Devotions unfolds in quiet, meditative textures inspired by plainchant, while a new work by fast-emerging composer and vocalist Rylan Gleave brings a distinctive new voice to the programme.

Moving between past and present, this concert reflects the continuing reach of Glass’ music and its resonance with composers working today.
