Opera News review: Kepler

KeplerCDSM
(click for full review)

"The opera ends with a churning, mechanistic epilogue in a relentless quintuple meter. This is Kepler's reconciliation: "I have measured the heavens, now I measure earthly shadows./ The mind belonged to heaven, the body's shadow rests here." By this time, Kepler has proved to be a distinctive and frequently rapturous musical imagining of what it might have been like to grapple with the mysteries of the universe in the seventeenth century. It's also one of Glass's most successful works to date."
