Busy…

Being busy isn’t a great excuse for not posting, however this week is what I consider the launch of the Philip Glass 75th Birthday Season.
On Monday morning I attended rehearsals of Act II-Scene 3 and all of Act III at the Metropolitan Opera. As wonderful as it was 3 years ago at the world’s greatest opera house, this time around it’s even better. The Chorus Director Donald Palumbo talked about the resistance, struggle, then mastering that his chorus went through last time. It was a major achievement. This time around it’s in the singers muscle memory. It’s really something to see. And enough can’t be said in praise of the poetic Crouch/McDermott production.
And then this morning I attended a rehearsal of Koyaanisqatsi at the New York Philharmonic. I believe the two shows, Glass’ debut with the orchestra, are very nearly sold out. It might be a long time before we have the chance to hear to two deluxe treatments of absolute masterpieces.
Koyaanisqatsi at the NY Phil, tomorrow and Thursday.
Satyagraha at the Metropolitan Opera Nov.4-Dec.1
