I was waiting for this to post online. In addition to the glowing review by the New York Times, Opera News, the ultimate journalistic voice in the US has picked Glass' Orphée as its Editor's Choice of the month.
Of course just having a recording of this work is long overdue. This production, which originated at Glimmerglass Opera a couple seasons ago had its West Coast premiere at Portland Opera last fall. This is a "live" recording but not really. All of the performances were recorded and Glass' long-time music director Michael Riesman worked hand-in-hand with conductor Anne Manson, exchanged notes, supervised the recordings, and had every chance to capture everything that way it needed to be.The result is beautiful.
It's hard to believe that this opera is from 1993 and has never been done in New York. Perhaps it's time. Are you listening New York City opera???

This recording is IMPOSSIBLE to get in Mexico. Orange Mountain Records is not releasing digital tracks in the Mexican iTunes store.
