Philip Glass News November 2014

As Philip Glass and the PGE arrive in Lithuania before heading to a short UK tour this month, we thought we might look ahead:

The Complete Piano Etudes continue to move forward. The pattern seems to be Etudes are released on Tuesdays and Fridays.  Etudes Nos.11, 13, 14, 15, and 16 have been released with Etudes Nos. 13 and 16 getting music videos.  We are about half way through the campaign of releasing the Etudes from Book Two, which haven't been heard before.

On Tuesday, "Orbit for Solo Cello," which Philip Glass composed for Yo-Yo Ma to be danced to by Lil'Buck, will be released by OMM as a digital single – a preview to the upcoming album by cellist Jeffrey Zeigler "Something of Life."  The album comes out Nov.18th but on Nov.11th – the Glass track will be available.

On a smart program at Brandeis University the Lydian String Quartet presents a program called "It's About Time" which presents the music of three composers: Haydn, Elliott Carter, and Philip Glass. You can catch the rarely heard "The Canyon" in Belgium this weekend among a smattering of other performances of Glass concertos in Europe this month. The Attaca Ensemble with harpist Extroadinaire Lavinia Meijer are touring Holland this month with a program that includes music from Akhnaten, The Hours, Koyaanisqatsi, Hydrogen Jukebox, Einstein on the Beach and more.
