Philip Glass and the Philip Glass Ensemble are heading down under next week to present live performances of the Qatsi Trilogy in Melbourne; July 31 Dennis Russell Davies performs the Tirol Concerto in Ernen Switzerland; on August 9th Davies will lead l'Orchestre Francais des Jeunes will premiere the Tenth Glass Symphony in Aix-en-Provence then on August 12 Davies and the OFJ will go to Berlin to perform the work; on that same day Maria Bachmann will perform the 2008 Sonata for Violin and Piano at the Maverick concerts in Woodstock New York;

Summer wraps up when Glass stops in Big Sur for his Days & Nights Festival with a screening of Koyaanisqatsi on August 31 with a Q & A with director Godfrey Reggio, followed by a performance by Glass and Foday Musa Suso on September 1, and Davies doing the long-neglected Songs of Milarepa in Linz

Then when we get into the fall we start with Einstein on the Beach at BAM, In the Upper Room in Canada, the Double Concerto at Dallas Symphony and the Netherlands, Satyagraha in Bonn, and a million other things.  But more on all that later.  As always, check the calendar for the latest updates.

  1. I flew on Delta Airlines last week, and was delighted to find Philip’s 9th symphony on their classical music channel. A pity that the volume was too low to enjoy it.
