WOW!
It’s disappointing that they’re re-releasing the Tirol Concerto instead of giving us something else or something new.
I think the idea is that all the concertos have to get into the series. The two remaining concertos that have to be in the series are the two violin concertos, and the forthcoming Cello Concerto No.2 Naqoyqatsi.
So excited for this! Really love this series and I look forward to future releases (and concertos!) as well.
By the way, Wikipedia also lists a horn concerto by Glass. Is it real or just a joke?
Definitely no Horn Concerto in existence or on the horizon and I’ve never heard him mention being interesting in writing one.
Sorry, but this is a new composition of Philip Glass?
From the amazon.com description:
“The Fourth Volume documenting the concertos by Philip Glass, this volume presents a brand new recording of the composers 2010 commission from the Nederlands Dans Theater, a Double Concerto for Violin, Cello and Orchestra featuring soloists Tim Fain and Wendy Sutter under the direction of Maestro Jurjen Hempel. The second concerto is the first piano concerto by Glass, the Tirol Concerto for Piano and String Orchestra performed by the Stuttgart Chamber Orchester with Dennis Russell Davies conducting from the keyboard. ”
The Tirol Concerto recording is not new — same old. Unfortunate.
Has this release been delayed; Amazon now slates it’s release date as Oct. 11? Will it be available sooner on iTunes (I’m sooo impatient!)?
Yes, classic Amazon. They change these dates on their own. The September release date is still in effect on iTunes.
Ohh goodie; just 3 more sleeps!
…okay, well maybe they’ll be very looong sleeps?
I’m very happy with this release. After enjoying the live performance of Double Concerto , I hoped that this recording would be released.Looking forward to Oct.11.
