You would think that. But in light of the two new recordings of the original 6 Glass piano etudes, I think I have a strong preference towards Glass’ interpretation. He seems to live in the rubato of every piece. He’s the author so he’s not afraid of taking the liberty. Brubaker always does a great job, his performance is a bit more relaxed than Davies who really plays them straightforward.
Funny. Though I love him, I’ve always thought that Philip is far from being the best performer of his own pieces. At least when it’s solo piano…
