Over the weekend, Philip Glass became the eleventh recipient of the Glenn Gould Prize, Canada’s highest award for music. The occasion was marked with a celebratory concert featuring Glass’s music including performances by Dennis Russell Davies and the NAC Orchestra, as well as performances by Simone Dinnerstein, Matt Haimovitz and Timo Andres performing his own music as the recipient of the Glenn Gould Protégé Award. The concert was reviewed by the Ottawa Citizen here who said “It’s not every day you see people head-banging at the symphony. This is part of the genius of Philip Glass: the ability to create music that achieves both the poetry of calculus and the irresistible, pounding drive of rock.”
