The Glass world lost a couple champions this past week. The LA Times reports on the passing of Stanley Grinstein. The Grinsteins are great supporters of the work of Philip Glass and have been for a very long time.
This week also saw that passing of Gérard Mortier. The controversial indendant who upon arriving at New York City Opera announced he'd be opening his tenure with an overdue revival of Einstein on the Beach and that he was also commissioning Glass' The Perfect American. When NYCO fell victim to the financial crisis, Mortier decamped to Madrid and brought his commitment to The Perfect American with him.

I found out on BBC News six
days ago that Gerard Mortier passed away.
That was very sad news.
I’ll remember him for commissioning The Perfect American and other operas.
