As Einstein on the Beach continues its sold-out run at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, some other interesting events are happening concurrently. Richmond Virginia is the location of a Philip Glass festival (Sept.16-Oct.6) which includes screenings of Glass: A Portrait in Twelve Parts, Koyaanisqatsi, and La Belle et la Bete. Concerts including eighth blackbird and Philip Glass with Tim Fain. Glass will also be present for a night of conversation.
Also of note this week is the US premiere of Glass' recent Double Concerto for Violin & Cello with the Dallas Symphony. In the Upper Room commences a tour in Canada, and on October 4th, the incomparable Labeque sisters play Glass' "Four Movements for Two Pianos" in Havana, Cuba. This is the first time I can remember Glass' music being played there…in the Teatro Karl Marx.
As always check the calendar section at PhilipGlass.com/calendar.
